Riders brave heat in first round of Supermoto Championships
Round 1 of the Supermoto WA’s Club Championships took off at the Midwest Kart Club at the weekend, with 34 riders competing.

With temperatures in the mid to high 30s, riders suited up and hit the track hard on Sunday to get ahead for the opening round.

In the supermoto open category, Tim Boujos (No. 88) came out on top after winning all four races on 100 points.

Boujos also smashed a track record after finishing on 38.1 seconds, overtaking his brother, who had previously held the record for two years, on 38.5 seconds.

Dylan Riley (No. 55) came in second for the open category on 80 points and Jess Boujos (No. 1) managed to hold on to third place by one point after a stall at the start of the final race lost her points.

A highlight of the day was the performance of Omar Gregolin, which moved him up from the supermoto clubman category to the open category, where he finished sixth.

Kristoffer Stanton Cook (No. 998) smashed the clubman category on 97 points, but lost his final race, which was stolen by Aaron Reay (No. 4), who finished second in the category on 85 points.

In the minimotards category, Lee Johnson (No. 74) took first place overall on 97 points. After falling just short in race one, Johnson took out the remaining races.

Francesco Bietto (No. 8) fell to second place overall with 91 points and Ben Stevenson (No. 99) came in third at 76 points.

Michael King (No. 94) came first overall in the postie bikes category on 97 points, followed by Steve McQueen (No. 51) on 89 and Gabby Watson (No. 429) on 82 points.

Midwest Kart Club treasurer Trevor Gross said it was a great weekend of racing despite the heat.

Round 2 of the Supermoto WA’s Club Championships will be held at Wanneroo on March 25th.
