Lara O’Leary or HRH as many know her at Motocross was one of only two Junior Girls that competed in every round of the 2017 WAMX Make Smoking History Junior State Championships and her focus this year was to improve on her riding with a few struggles last year she was determined to do better.
The first round of the season in Kalgoorlie she was the most excited when one of the boys who is in the top of her class only lapped her once instead of twice like the year before and she was able to maintain this all year. She certainly isn’t the fastest…..yet, but would have to be one of the hardest triers out on track, she really enjoys her racing the smile after every race says it all. Lara managed to finish all but one race in the series, the DNF which was due to a faulty spark plug saw her finish 15th in the 65cc 7-U10 years for 2017 a huge improvement from 37th the previous year and not bad for someone who has only been riding since March 2015.
Lara also competed in some other race events throughout the year, Chidlow 2 day Challenge, Eric Walter Cup and the Manjimup 15000. She really loved Manjimup the best not only did she catch up with her idol Kirk Gibbs, but because at this event there were a lot more girls to race against in her class. Whilst she doesn’t mind racing with the boys it would be great to see more girls out there giving it a go and Lara tries to get to every event that is put together by Motorcycling WA Women where girls can ride and meet other girls that enjoy the sport, and also watch some of the best women in the sport compete.
Lara is excited to be stepping up to the 85cc 9-U12 years class for season 2018 and this will provide a few new challenges and she is already focused hard on training to be ready for them. In her spare time she is always training at Martial Arts and hopes to get her black belt in the future. She has also displayed some amazing sportsmanship both on and off the track, being seen many times stopping to help a fellow rider who has fallen and helping out where she can, and she always has an amazing smile on her face.
Lara and her family attend the Motorcycling WA Women "girl" events and she enjoys having her brothers help out on the day. Lara is a truly inspirational girl in the sport and has the commitment and dedication to improve her race craft and has achieved some excellent results in 2017.
This year Lara was lucky enough to have some really awesome sponsors and she can’t thank them enough for everything they have helped her Perthmx.com, BNB Beverages, NR Metal Recycling, Rip N Roll Goggles Australia, Mindarie Motorcycles, MxInk and Peter G’s Marine Products.
Ride on Lara and we look forward to seeing you in 2018!
